DMA publishes report

At its recent conference in Washington, D.C., the Direct Marketing Association unveiled a forecast regarding changes to the industry and giving more information to sector professionals.

The newly-released "The Power of Direct Marketing" revealed that the industry is leading the way when it comes to growth, with spending expected to increase 7.1 percent to total $2 trillion. Nationwide direct marketing accounts for a total of 8.7 percent of the U.S. GDP, highlighting the importance of outreach strategies such as direct mail campaigns.

"DMA’s The Power of Direct Marketing Report was prepared in August 2011 using the economic model of US direct marketing activity updated every year for DMA by Global Insight," the group said in its report. "Incorporating the most recent data available on developments in all sectors of the US economy, it aims to help marketers plan expenditures, sales, ROI, and employment for the 16-month period through the end of 2009.

The DMA made other headlines after it was nominated as a finalist for a Public Relations campaign award. The group was named as one of the top organizations for an award from the Public Relations Consultants Association.
