While there's no magic bullet when it comes to increasing consumer engagement levels, many businesses and other institutions have found success when using quick response codes. The scannable barcodes allows those with smartphones to learn more information about services being offered or schedules.
In one recent case, the bus system at the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Transit, unveiled new printed materials that include QR codes that inform riders when the next bus will come to the stop and, enabling them to make plans as a result. Many within the school of higher education said that the system would prove to be valuable to the many riders who rely on their smartphones for nearly every aspect of their lives these days.
"With the QR codes, riders can better plan their schedules," says Marie Witt, vice president for the Business Services Division at the Ivy League school. "They get all the information they need, instantly."
Other places have used the barcodes to make it easier for new comers to navigate. Fox News reports that park officials at J.N. Darling National Wild Life in Florida is added the codes to help visitors learn more information about all things wild.
