Marketing budgets expected to increase

A report from the Direct Marketing Association found that a total of $163 billion would be spent during 2011, marking an increase from the year before.

The study, released on October 2, revealed that the marketing industry would see a 5.6 percent increase from the year before and account for more than half, 52.1 percent, of all advertising expenditures in the U.S. It also found that firms planned to spend $1.2 billion on mobile marketing efforts, a 38.7 percent increase from the year before.

The leadership of the DMA said that the increase in spending was a good sign for the sector, which includes direct mail marketing efforts.

“It’s fair to say that direct marketing is one of the current engines of economic growth for the U.S.,” says Yory Wurmser, DMA’s director of marketing and media insights.

In related news, the DMA appointed Matt Blumbeg to take over as its new board chairman for 2012-2013, succeeding G. Steven Dapper. Also appointed to leadership positions were Glenn S. Eisen, Leslie Abi-Karam, and Rick Erwin.
