“The smoke that thunders” or Mosi-oa-Tunya is the name the Kalolo-Lozi people had for Victoria Falls according to National Geographic. If you’ve been lucky enough to experience the falls, located along the Zambezi River, at the border between Zambia and Zimbabwe, then you know why. Magnificent plumes of mist hover around and above one of the world’s largest waterfalls as it thunders over the edge. It is considered one of the seven natural wonders of the world. Mosi Oa Tunya is the ideal name for a unique cigar brand with the magnificent falls depicted on its foil cigar rings.
Branded, embossed foil cigar rings
Mosi Oa Tunya Cigars was founded in 2019. It is the first hand-rolled cigar company in Zimbabwe. How did a cigar-maker from Africa end up using a Pennsylvania printer for custom foil cigar rings? They wanted the best for their premier product. In other words, Zimbabwe’s exclusive handmade cigars deserve the finest embossed foil cigar rings. The Mosi Oa Tunya cigar ring has been embossed and then foil stamped with both gold and green foils. The custom cigar band reads “The Smoke That Thunders” under a gold foil embossed image of its namesake, the Victoria Falls. Professionally printed foil cigar wraps are an ideal way to showcase the quality of this unique brand. They capture the mystery, magic, and thunder that is Victoria Falls.
An area rich in tobacco
For company founder, Shep Mafundikwa, Zimbabwe was a natural location for a premium cigar company. It is the largest producer of tobacco on the African continent and one of the top producers in the world. Yet, much of the tobacco was exported to other countries. Mafundikwa felt cigar manufacturing was an opportunity to take advantage of the natural resources of the land, develop the industry, and create jobs. According to the Mosi Oa Tunya website, they are particularly focused on empowering women through job creation. Mosi Oa Tunya employs many women on its team of cigar rollers. Mafundikwa traveled to Cuba and the Dominican Republic to learn the craft of cigar making. After that, he brought his knowledge back to Zimbabwe to help build his brand.
Three distinct blends of cigars
Mosi Oa Tunya cigars are carefully hand-rolled and feature Zimbabwe’s finest tobacco. They are enhanced by the best wrappers from Cameroon, Central America, and the Caribbean. The cigars come in three blends – light, mild, and strong. The type of individual cigar can be found on the expertly foiled cigar rings that enhance the look of each product.
